Many people throughout the world still remain with various types of misconceptions which they must be cleared. Because a tiny wrong concept may cause serious harm in understanding the higher concepts.
Today in this topic I’m Mondeep is going to be represent the true history behind a world’s one of the great concept. That amazing topic is our very familiar “The Photoelectric Effect”. The people which are related to science may very clearly aware about this great effect. But a large percentage of people always kept a misconception about this effect.
Most of the people think that the Photoelectric effect was discovered by Sir Albert Einstein, but it is not so. The Photoelectric Effect was first discovered by Heinrich Hertz in 1887 when Einstein was only eight years old. Also the two scientists named Wilhelm Hallwachs and Philipp Lenard were also investigated the phenomenon of photoelectric emission in detail during 1886-1902. They performed numerous experiments to clarify about this topic.
Lenard observed that when ultraviolet radiations were allowed to fall on the emitter plate (a plate which eject electrons when sunlight or UV ray fall on it) of an evacuated glass tube enclosing two electrodes (metal plates), current flows in the circuit. As soon as the UV radiations are stopped, the current flow also stopped. In this way they experimentally proved the photoelectric emission but they could not able to give a proper mathematical expression. To win the prestigious Nobel Prize a perfect experimental as well as a mathematical explanation is must required about a particular theory or effect. But these scientists couldn’t able to do so mathematically.
When Einstein aware about this incredible phenomena then he started to study about this phenomena deeply. After immense hard work and with the help of his great imagination in 1905, Albert Einstein proposed a radically new picture of electromagnetic radiation to explain the photoelectric effect. At last he formulates and publishes perfect mathematical explanation about this effect which was very easily understandable. In 1921, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for his great contribution to theoretical physics and the Photoelectric effect.
So this is the misconception that 80% of people have.
Hope this post helped to clear that misconceptions!
